Russell M. MARTIN

Russell M. MARTIN was born abt. 1816 in Tennessee, the son of an unknown MARTIN and Anna ????. A good deal of my data concerning Russell MARTIN was taken from two books, as well as census data. The first was "Leaves From the Family Tree" by Penelope Johnson Allen, 1982, Southern Historical Press, Easley, South Carolina, pg. 259. The second source was "Compendium of Biography: Including Biographical Sketches of Prominent Old Settlers and Representative Citizens of Part of the Cumberland Region of Tennessee..."; 1898; Geo. A. Ogle & Co., Chicago, Illinois; reprinted 1980, Southern Historical Press, Easley, South Carolina, pgs. 343-344.
Russell was married abt. 1839, probably in Hamilton County, Tennessee to Mary ROGERS, daughter of Elisha and Sarah "Sally" THURMAN. To this marriage were born 12 children:

- Elizabeth J. "Betty", b. abt. 1842, d. bef 1898. (Married James M. FORD).

- Sarah Ann, b. 27 Jun 1846. (Married Alexander Prowl SMITH).

Mary 10, 1873Russell appears to have remarried, as there is a "Kate, wife of R. M. MARTIN" buried beside him as well. Russell died on 11 Nov 1894 in Hamilton County, Tennessee and is buried next to Mary and Kate. His headstone reads:
