Green Berry Shiver was born about 1832 in Dooly County, Georgia, a son of James and Polly SHIVER.
He was married 7 Jan 1853 in Floyd County, Georgia to Francis Louisa WILLIAMS. The known children of this couple are:

- Augustus A., b. 22 Jun 1856. (Married Sarah Evaline SHIVER).
- Alonzo, b. abt. 1863.
- Ellafare, b. abt. 1868, d. 13 Jul 1897. (Married Enoch Lloyd or Elliard SHIVER).
- Hyson, b. Mar 1874. (Married Mittie SHIVER).
- Willie, b. abt. 1875.
It appears that Francis died sometime in early 1875, and he remarried Sarah J. ARRINGTON on 13 May 1875. This marriage produced 4 children:
- Hampton, b. Aug 1877, d. 6 Sep 1901.
- Laurel, b. 13 Aug 1878.
- Mentena, b. Jan 1880, d. 14 Jun 1914.
- James Green, b. 4 Jul 1881, d. 29 Dec 1949. (Married Addie Ocilla GOODBREAD).
