Upon arriving in Quebec, they immediately embarked on a Canadian Pacific Railroad rail journey to Portal, North Dakota, where they entered the United States. Their travels brought them to the southern part of Ward County, North Dakota, where Ostop homesteaded on a parcel of land there. His homestead was recorded in Ward Co. Deed Book 62 on page 337. A photo of this document, along with others will be posted on this site soon.
Lydia died on 16 Apr 1933 in Bismarck, Burleigh, North Dakota. She is buried in a cemetery just south of the Ward-McLean County Line. Ostop followed her in death on 26 Jan 1935, when he died in St. Joseph's Hospital, Minot, Ward County, North Dakota. He is buried beside his wife.
It should be noted that the birthdate given for Lydia on her headstone is incorrect, and though we do not have her exact birthdate, the dates on this web site are the closest we can find to her accurate birthyear.
